Spy School, is the first book in a growing series of the series “Spy School” by Stuart Gibbs. In this book, Benjamin Ripley gets recruited to Spy School. Ben was an average twelve-year-old, he attended a public middle school, hung out with his friends, and played sports. Until, he met Alexander Hale, vice president of a CIA spy school, where spies learn the skills they need in the field. Ben is told that he has been admitted because of his “Level 16” math skills, but in truth, the CIA is using him as bait. Ben is clueless about this plan, but when someone tries to kill him, he quickly catches on. In the book, Ben and his new friend Erica try to save the school and Ben, himself!

One of the things I thought was really nice about this book was that it was funny, but at the same time, somewhat serious. When I first saw this book, I thought that it would be really serious and have violence since it was called “Spy School” but I tried it, because my brother had read it and he said that it was funny. Now I love this book and I keep up with the new releases so I can read it!

I think this book is for ages 9 or 10 through 12 years old. I think it would be suitable for this age group because in some parts of the book, it takes place in a middle school, and kids who are going into middle school or are in middle school, could connect to the story which makes the book more enjoyable. Another reason is that later in the series there are very daring stunts and explosions which depends on the readers’ preference of books they read, but for younger readers, it may be too harsh.

I would recommend this book to get at a library, because the book could be really enjoyable to some, but others may not like it at all. Though, I would say that if you are looking for a good book and you want to try something new, definitely try Spy School, and if you like it, there is a whole growing series after it!
